Feb 9th is National Pizza Day in the US – we took the chance to join in…
We’re thinking global
The work we do with Care Without Carbon is global in thought, even if we’re acting locally. Because the environment is something we all share no matter what country we live in. In the spirit of thinking globally we decided to embrace the American tradition of National Pizza Day, which takes place every year on 9th February.
Did you know that the first pizzeria called Antica Pizzeria opened in Naples, Italy, in 1738? So we’re celebrating an age old tradition here!
The greenest pizza in the world…
We searched long and hard to find a tasty eco-pizza! We’ve posted our favourites below:
Spring veg pizza – seasonally sustainable and super delicious. Making your own pizza dough is easy and way cheaper than buying in. Plus you are cutting down on a lot of added sugar and salt by doing it yourself. Get the recipe here.
Green pizza – the toppings of courgette and avocado make this a literally green pizza! We love the toppings and the different idea of using quinoa for the base, but you could just make the pizza base from the recipe above and use these topping on that instead. Here is the recipe.
Cauliflower base green pizza – if the idea of kneading your own dough doesn’t appeal then a cauliflower crust is a great alternative and the toppings on this one don’t get much greener. Also has the bonus of being gluten free! Here’s how you make it.
Mixed veg pizza – the kitchen shed website offers up this simple yet delicious pizza with a home made wholemeal base that is just packed with goodness. Find the recipe here.
Pizza toppings can be an excuse to have fun. Here are some of our ideas…
- Garlic mushrooms
- Balsamic roasted tomatoes
- Pan fried peppers
- Grilled asparagus
- Caramelised apple or pear
- Chopped walnuts
- Rosemary sautéed potatoes
Whatever you throw on top of your pizza, enjoy every slice! We’d love to know what you come up with, leave a comment below or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
