What is the Clinical Fellow Scheme?

The Chief Sustainability Officer’s Clinical Fellow Scheme offers clinicians with a passion for sustainability a unique opportunity to develop their leadership skills and positively impact the delivery of more sustainable healthcare. It is a 12 month position, fully funded by NHS England as a secondment at band 8A, to start in post from September 2022.

Those appointed to the scheme will work by engaging directly with the most senior leaders in the NHS, helping to embed net zero carbon principles in the delivery of care across the healthcare system.

Why get involved?

Climate change threatens this by undermining the foundations of good health and putting the NHS, its people, and the patients it serves at risk. As the UK’s largest employer, contributing 4.6% of UK carbon emissions, the NHS is part of the challenge and the solution. This is a great opportunity for a clinician passionate about doing something to tackle climate change to get involved with a National approach to sustainable healthcare.

Who can apply and how?

The scheme is open to allied health professionals, doctors in training, nurses, public health specialist registrar trainees, pharmacists, healthcare scientists, dentist and midwives from across the UK, and is aimed at aspiring future clinical leaders who have not held a senior leadership role within their specialism.
